News headlines during this period reveal many of the issues humanity will be addressing and needing to heal over the next seven years.
Questions involving money, stability, the body, pleasure, self-esteem, and survival may become unusually personal. A profound awareness of the wounds we carry in our bodies related to safety, self-worth, nourishment, and our connection to the Earth. Healing shifts from a pursuit of resolution to a gentle nurturing of what is ready to be experienced. Do not rush to fix everything.
The physical world that we rely upon may be feeling quite unstable. We may notice that an ordinary inconvenience touches something much older. Taurus wounds often hide beneath practical concerns, but the emotional charge reveals that this is not merely about the bank account, the body, the job, or the relationship. It is about what those things have come to represent. Pay attention to the bargains we have made for security. Begin by noticing where we numb, clutch, hoard, overconsume, or refuse to move.
Issues of finances and supplies arose the last time Chiron was in Taurus, from 1976 to 1984 – inflation rates in the U.S. reached nearly 15%; the Iranian revolution tripled the cost of oil; high interest rates led to the Farm Financial Crisis, with up to 300,000 farms in the U.S. defaulting on their loans.
Health and environmental issues were also in the spotlight during that time. Awareness of the effects of Agent Orange on Vietnam veterans; residents in the Love Canal neighbourhood of Niagara Falls, New York, discovered that their high rates of illness, miscarriages, and birth defects were due to the chemical wastes that had been buried in the area 30 years earlier. And in 1979, the worst nuclear accident in U.S. history occurred when the reactor at Three Mile Island, Pennsylvania, had a partial core meltdown.
Chiron's task is to reveal the wound so that solutions might be found and unhealthy practices changed. The exposure of these wounds will become the incentive for major societal and governmental changes to be implemented. It seems reasonable to expect that while it journeys through Taurus over the next seven years, Chiron will provide ample evidence of the environmental destruction caused by war, of the reality of climate change, and of the need for humanity to become better stewards of the natural world. We will also see more clearly how greed and hoarding by the few affects the physical health and well-being of the many.
